ESCHEWING the high gloss that Versace ordinarily contributes to couture every season, Donatella Versace mattified Fall 2016’s grandiose garments in favour of taking control of silhouettes by experimenting with daring drape and variant volume.
Donatella offered up her new take on alta moda sensuality in torrents of twisted duchess satin in milky pastel shades that seamlessly formed dramatic gowns set to contrast becomingly with crimson red carpets come the next awards season. Elsewhere cashmere was lavishly knotted and layered to create pseudo-casual jackets slung over sparingly sequinned dresses in what would become quite the modern couture statement throughout.
This study in tailoring, along with the slender tailored trousers that propped up swooping satin skirts, hinted at an alluring grace which nevertheless retained all the right Versace signatures.
Contouring the rest of the shapes seen in the new collection with strips of sinuous materials, strategical pattern cutting and considerably more effacing bursts and bolts of embellishment, Donatella brought her latest sample of splendour to a commendable end. Whilst she ensured Atelier Versace stuck to their guns, the thoughtfulness was a lot more refreshing.
