Dublin-based designer John Rocha hosted a catwalk show at Somerset House during London Fashion Week. The venue was packed to the tilt with fashion enthusiasts and photographers ready to set eyes on the first catwalk looks for this upcoming autumn/winter season. Known for his experimentation with textiles and dramatic looks, Rochas did not disappoint as he revealed a beautifully romantic collection.
Oversized ruffles, hats and corsages designed from organza were featured on young expressionless looking models along with dresses with exquisite embroidery detail and chiffon overlays. Lace and tweeds provided contrasting textures and a simple but rich colour palette of forest greens, bright reds and dark shades kept the pieces looking pure, romantic, and powerful.
Glass magazine was present after the show to speak with John about his thoughts about the design industry today and his words of wisdom to those who are starting out. He highlighted that the major difference between the industry today and back when he first started back in the 1980s is the sheer number of designers that are present. He words of advice for those who are just starting in this competitive environment of design was simple, yet powerful. “Follow your Dream.”
