Paul Smith did things his own way this season by fashioning his latest collection as a contemporary take on the new wave that hit music and fashion vice versa in the late ‘70s, lingering throughout the ‘80s.
Like a living breathing Blondie record sleeve, ties and belts were super skinny and jackets supersized, with a nonchalant poppy-ness beaming from the metallic suits, bold strips of colour and dot to dot patterns.
The youthful and starry-eyed suavity of it all presented nothing unexpected, per se. By now Smith has cemented himself as a menswear maverick, who doesn’t just work on putting together a smart suit but works to capture a sensibility, and does so very smoothly may we add.
