THIS week, theskyline of NYC lit up the runway of Saint Laurent SS19 Menswear Collection. Showing at the Liberty State Park in New Jersey, the show was first of its kind for the brand, showcasing menswear solely.
Creative director Anthony Vaccarello managed to make the show a cohesive blend of both old and new. Announcing that he had found inspiration through the late founder, Yves Saint Laurent own wardrobe. Many of the pieces seen walking down the runway where either favourites of Yves’ or had a strong correlation to places and things he adored. Models came out looking like the mirroring image of Yves from the ‘70s. Wearing tight or boot cut black jeans, paired with an array of different blazers, leather jackets, and eclectic blouses, it was clearly an homage to Saint Laurent and his personal style.
Vaccarello captured Yves’ love for Marrakech by incorporating tangled necklaces, silk printed blouses, belted saharienne jackets and black grosgrain boating hats.
As a grand finale ending the historic show, models walked shirtless, covered in silver spray paint wearing nothing but tight fitted black sequin pants.
