Glass celebrates The Wolseley Champagne Afternoon Tea Hamper

THE Glass Team celebrated their Christmas party this week which was deliciously accompanied by the The Wolseley’s Champagne Afternoon Tea Hamper. The Hamper includes a selection of essential British treats for the perfect afternoon tea – there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The Wolseley’s Limited Edition Hamper

The black and gold aesthetic oozes festivity and extravagance in this limited-edition hamper. Sweet treats from their renowned restaurant includes shortbread and Florentine biscuits. The all-butter shortbread melts into your mouth with its crumbly texture. The alternative are salted caramel Florentine biscuits that feature almonds, hazelnuts, sultanas, lemon peel and ginger with a cover of caramel chocolate – the combination creates the perfect crunch.

The English Breakfast Loose Leaf Tea comes with a Silver-Plated Tea Strainer with a drip bowel that is engraved with their monogram to complete the opulent set. The loose-leaf tea is sourced from ancient tea gardens from across the world, ensuring that the taste is of classic taste. The tea is presented in a reusable tin, adhering to the aesthetic of the hamper.

The hamper included luxury shortbread, champagne and loose-leaf tea

For those who prefer a more extravagant drink, the hamper offers a bottle of the Pommery Brut Royal NV Champagne. The luxurious drink has hints of apple and citrus touching on floral allusions, creating a sweet accompaniment to the biscuits.  The champagne orginates from Reims, a celebrated area with regards to their production of wine. The Wolseley have made this Pommery their house champagne, ensuring quality with every sip – the perfect drink to toast this season.

A special addition to the hamper is the Champagne Afternoon Tea for Two at The Wolseley gift card that allows you to continue the fun of afternoon tea on another occasion at The Wolseley. Each card is valid for 12 months.

The Wolseley are proud to uphold the tradition of afternoon tea, that was started by Anna Russell (the 7th Duchess of Bedford) in 1840. This now traditional British custom occurred as the gap between lunch and dinner was so big that people became hungry mid-way through, thus Anna Russell, one afternoon, ordered tea and biscuits to subside her hunger while visiting the 6th Duke of Rutland. She proceeded to invite her friends to join her, which proceeded to become a social event and was spread to the masses. The Wolseley have condensed this tradition into a hamper for you to take home with you this Christmas for the whole family to enjoy.

The Glass Team indulged themselves in the hamper. Here are some of our reactions:

Managing Editor Lily Rimmer said, “I love the shortbread. It tastes so buttery and the crumbly texture makes it feel homemade in the best way”

Editor-in-Chief Caroline Simpson said, “The caramel Florentine biscuits were perfect with the loose-leaf tea- I felt like I was indulging in a fancy afternoon tea at ladies’ lunch out.”

Editorial Assistant Lupe Bayaens added, “I’m a big tea fan, and always love properly indulging in loose leaf tea. This one was so tasty, it was rich and strong without being bitter,”

Editorial Assistant Emma Hart said,“This champagne was perfect- I loved how fruity it tasted, sometimes champagne can taste a bit sour after a while, but the apple-y hints really combated that.”
