Sergio Loro Piana, vice-president of the luxury Italian label Loro Piana has died of long-term illness. Sergio was in his late sixties. Loro Piana is a six generation family-run business established in 1924, and started out as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-quality textiles. Along with fine fabrics such as merino wool and cashmere, Loro Piana also specializes in vicuna, the world’s rarest natural wool fiber.
The multi-billion dollar empire also produces clothing and accessories, maintaining their worldwide reputation for uncompromising quality and eternal Italian elegance in their products. Luxury group LVMH recently bought 80 per cent of the family business last summer, and for the moment Sergio’s brother and Vice-President Pietro holds the other 20 per cent stake. Sergio is survived by his wife Maria Luisa and three children.
