Milan Menswear SS15: Versace

Versace maketh the man, and what a mighty good man they make. Undeniably, the thaumaturgy behind their menswear offerings is due to the pleasure Donatella takes in sculpting Hercules incarnate. This season was no different; the sartorial sibyl herself called it “a celebration of Versace”, and even though that term could be associated with every regal collection, spring/summer consisted of a specifically opulent blend of sexy maximalism,  Medusa head settings and Kraftwerk to a Copacabana beat.

That Latino Americano drive was significant with Versace drawing on ‘Cuban soul and the streets of Havana’ for sandblasted pastel hues of powdery metrosexual pink and sky blues. The Panama-esque power-breasted suits were full on this season, paired with chunky gold medallions and thick, luscious leather made its mark too with soul-boy Cuban graffiti prints.

The Italian powerhouse then glammed up utility rather conspicuously, with mesh luggage, because this is Versace, and when you invest in their ornate bone china home-ware you’re going to want everyone to see. Mesh was also utilised as the ultimate flesh-flasher in heavenly house-code approved gold and white colour schemes, coupled here and there with Adonis togas. As much as it is all about the clothes, Versace is case in point that branding should bowl one over with arresting charisma; because imperatively this is what frames said clothing.
