The Making of Michael B. Jordan’s Louis Vuitton Suit for the Academy Awards

HOLLYWOOD loves a coronation, and last night, the crown finally found its way to Michael B. Jordan. Nearly two decades after first announcing himself as a generational screen presence, the American actor, producer, and director stepped onto the Oscar’s stage to claim his first Academy Award for Best Male Actor at the 98th Academy Awards.

The win was for his hypnotic dual performance as the Smokestack Twins in Ryan Coogler’s Southern Gothic epic Sinners (2025) – a film that had already arrived at the ceremony like a cultural storm front with a record-breaking 16 nominations. But despite picking up a further three for Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score, the night ultimately belonged to Jordan.

And if the Oscars are cinema’s most theatrical runway, Jordan understood the assignment. Dressed in a custom Louis Vuitton look created specifically for the evening, the actor embodied a kind of modern aristocratic cool: part military precision, part Parisian tailoring.

The ensemble centred on a black officer-collar jacket crafted from 100% wool, its sharp structure softened by silk satin detailing at the chest pocket and along the piping. Monogrammed black-and-gold cage buttons punctuated the jacket like quiet flashes of armour, lending the silhouette a subtle regality.

The jacket was paired with straight-cut tuxedo trousers in matching wool, finished with a sleek satin stripe running down each side – a classic tailoring flourish that elongated the line of the leg. Beneath it, a crisp white poplin shirt added a note of restrained clarity, letting the architecture of the suit speak for itself.

The result was a study in controlled elegance: formalwear that felt both cinematic and precise, the kind of understated savoir-faire that Louis Vuitton has mastered.
