RENOWNED for his extravagant and opulent creations, Ashish meets his reputation as a master of embroidery and embellishment with his fall collection. Vibrant with colour, sequins, and an abundance of glitter, the collection encompasses every thing Ashish loves most.
Ashish incorporates the vibrancy of his signature floral patches into crochet knit, intwining his own Indian ancestry with contemporary street style, as well as a strong ‘60s influence. Integrated into almost every look, Ashish refuses to conform to traditional modes of knitwear, bringing crochet knit into dresses, trousers, and outer-wear. Layering was another key characteristic of the collection, showcasing an eclectic combination of different contrasting textures, colours, and prints. A fresh and unanticipated move for the designer, expect the unexpected with this collection.
The collection was most successful through its experimentation with embellishment. Featuring show-stopping multi-coloured flower embellishment, Ashish uses a transparent mesh material to highlight its elaborate detail and vivid colours. Bringing floral embellishment into the collections menswear, Ashish disregards archetypes of feminine and masculine. Flowers are no longer a symbol of femininity, but present a feeling of connection between the sexes.
Ashish draws inspiration from Victoriana for the collection, utilising chiffon and tulle frills in heavily embellished pieces. The collection also brings oversized beaded pearl collars and pussy-bow blouses, reinventing Victorian style with a fresh contemporary edge, complete with teased over-the-top curled wigs. With its variety of different cultural and periodic influences, Ashish’s latest collection accumulates everything the designer finds beautiful. Showcasing everything the designer appreciates most, the collection carries a feeling of authenticity and character which is wonderfully personal.
