A NEWLY restored Chanel boutique has opened its’ doors on the corner of Draycott Avenue and Walton Street last week. Designed by star architect Peter Marino, no stranger to the Parisian brand as this is the 15th Chanel boutique he leaves his mark on. Remaining true to the essence of the brand, this three-storey settlement took its inspiration directly from Coco Chanel’s world famous apartment on Rue Cambon in Paris.

The spanking new 750 square-feet store is light-flooded with large floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings and an additional outdoor terrace providing a touch of nature. The interior brings the iconic black and white colour code of the French maison to life, yet gives it a twist by adding pink and blue accents. Saporiti chairs, lacquer coffee tables and custom woven window panels by Lesage reference the iconic Chanel tweed while adding a refined touch and creating a sense of intimacy.

With various entrances visitors either step foot into the shoe salon, with seasonal favourites as well as classic styles, or are invited to discover the latests Fall-Winter 2018 looks displayed on elevated metallic frames. The glass and metal staircase leads up to two accessory salons, three Ready-to-Wear salons mimicking the style of an open wardrobe and sophisticated fitting rooms. A real sense of elegance can be found in the details, with Louis XV antique armchairs in beige suede – another reference to Chanel’s apartment – and hand applied wall finishes.

With artworks such as Erik Lindman’s monochromic Untitled, a Murano glass ceiling sculpture by Jean-Michel Othoniel or Michal Rovner’s work in the lift, the newest boutique hones in on Gabrielle Chanel’s close affiliation and love for arts.
