Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents The Valley by Fabrice Hyber

FROM December 8, 2022, to April 30, 2023, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain will present The Valley –  a huge monographic exhibition showcasing the painting of Fabrice Hyber.

There will be a total of 60 works to display, including almost fifteen pieces produced specifically for this exhibition, in this educational presentation of the French artist. Visitors are invited to learn their way through the layout as it has been designed to follow a classroom motif.

“I have always considered my canvases to be like classroom blackboards, like those where we learn to dissect knowledge through teachers and researchers. Mine offer other worlds, whether possible or impossible. In this exhibition, I chose to install my works instead of blackboards in this ideal school setting”, explains Fabrice Hyber.

A determined educational residency program will offer eleven elementary and horticultural high school classes from the Vendée and Paris regions and will work throughout the year on themes formed from Hyber’s work. These will be hosted in his workshop at the Vendée and at the Fondation Cartier regularly, leading to the program becoming the heart of a documentary film.

Whilst on their trip around the insightful exhibition, the scenography will cast visitors to a playful terrain of exploration, inviting one to learn, move around, open doors, look over windows, step over shapes, play, but also sit on a bench or in front of a desk to scour canvases that restore traditional blackboards.

Drawing inspiration from interferences, interactions, and influences on people’s behaviours, makes Hyber’s work incredibly relatable and socially intriguing. The Valley will continue to bring together the diversified forms of knowledge that always backs the work of the artist, whilst reflecting the ever-so-great range of Hyber’s artistic practice.
