MARYLEBONE staple 108 Brasserie’s summer menu offers a brilliant spin on classic Brasserie fare, bringing a sunny, alfresco feel to one of the capitals most elegant nightspots.

Brasserie standards remain prominent (Steak Tartare, Lamb Rump and Wild Mushroom Risotto are immediate standouts), yet there is also a conscious emphasis on lighter, less indulgent dishes. The Grilled organic salmon with herb butter & lemon avoids the common faux pas of excessive, dairy heavy sauce, and instead allows the fish to take centre stage— grilled beautifully with subtle zesty notes.

The Niçoise salad, with seared tuna, green beans, soft egg, new potatoes & olives is another great lunch option for those who can’t afford to spend a precious sunny day in London sleeping off a ribeye steak.

Stepping outside, 108 Brasserie’s terrace area has the feel of a European café in the early evening, mid-summer (think Madrid post-siesta or Naples), such is Marylebone’s strangely neighbourhood-like atmosphere. There’s the semi pedestrianised surrounding streets, the tumbling vines that hug the brasseries façade, and, of course, the knowledge that somehow, one of London’s busiest high streets is almost within earshot. Out of sight, and out of mind.

If you’re able to secure a coveted terrace table, and want to stretch the illusion that you’re on holiday in the med even further, do as the Italians do and stay for a post-dinner espresso. Better yet, make it an espresso martini. The added mascarpone makes 108 Brasserie’s ‘It Isn’t Martini’, one of the finest espresso martinis in the capital.
