IT’S easy to forget that a sprawling river runs on both sides of the concrete jungle that is Manhattan. Industry Kitchen, an airy space located just steps from the waterfront in the Financial District, offers such a welcome respite, boasting seaport breezes and killer views of the Brooklyn and Williamsburg Bridges.

The 5,000-square-foot structure, which has striking pale wood interiors and full-length windows, provides extensive seating inside as well as across its riverfront patio. The property has become known as a prime downtown spot for modern American cuisine based on seasonal ingredients. The menu focuses on classics like wood-fired pizzas, grilled fish and meat dishes, and hearty salads. It’s no-nonsense cuisine done elegantly, so you can order an Avocado Toast along with a Chilled Watermelon Soup, or a Miso Marinated Salmon accompanied by some Potato Curls. The restaurant has become especially renowned for its excellent pizzas, not to mention its signature Guiness World Record 24K concoction that features foie gras, platinum Ossetra caviar and 24 karat gold leaves.
The tables at Industry Kitchen New York
On a warm evening when Glass recently visited, the patio was filled to the brim with locals munching on salads and sipping on wine. The atmosphere was easy and bustling, and it was difficult to think of a better place in the city to have a bite to eat as the sun started to set on the skyscrapers across the river and a cool breeze set in. The Burrata Salad was a creamy yet refreshing way to start the meal, offering a fantastically high-quality cheese and super fresh beetroot, whilst the Oven-Poached Striped Bass was a delicious, flavoursome stew that included mussels and chorizo.

The desserts on offer are pure feel-good creations: think moist Lemon Tart with rich Vanilla Gelato, and Dark Chocolate Lava Cake served with Coconut Sorbet. Also charming is the restaurant’s offering of wine by the half bottle, which is a great option when wanting a more restrained night out. There’s also an impressive selection of beers, and cocktails are also served should you need a Formula 70 (tequila, Cointreau, muddled blueberries) or Sunny Seaport (aged rum, orange rosemary syrup) to do the trick.

Suffice to say, as summertime beckons, Industry Kitchen will become a mainstay for New Yorkers wanting to have an easy night out with first-rate eats, plus a feeling that they just might be on holiday.
