DONATELLA Versace described her latest men’s SS18 collection as a “homecoming”. It has been 20 years since the death of her brother, and founder of the brand, Gianni Versace. So it was only fitting for the collection to be both familiar and nostalgic.
The soft pastel colour palette and the royal blue pinstripe and red themes fitted in perfectly with the relaxed environment of the show. The show was presented at the Versace family palazzo at Via Gesu, Milan, to honour the late designer.
The classic Versace, Roman designs similar to the SS1992 womenswear – made popular by Linda Evangelista – were seen this year on silk shirts and matching blazers. In addition, there were hoody-style shirts paired with a thin black, white and grey wide-leg suit.
Double denim jackets and jeans were combined with patches of roman head figures up the side of the leg and strategically placed around the jacket. Making it one of Versace more laid-back and calm collection
Baby pink and blue tracksuits were also seen as well as lightly printed jacquard designs. A Glass favourite was the pink and blue plain logo t-shirt with matching fitted trousers. A suitable mix of smart and casual wear. Models wore round blackout sunglasses identical to Morpheus from The Matrix.
It looks like the brand’s previous motif has worked its way back and Versace is back home.
