PFW SS21: Ottolinger

IT IS interesting to see how lockdown changed the way designers approached their latest collection. For Berlin-based Ottolinger, creative directors Cosima Gadient and Christa Bösch started by asking the question of what their superpower would be if they could choose one.

With a mutual understanding of wanting to empower their customers with their clothes, it was all about ensuring essentials became a dominant force.

The two designers wanted to make sure each garment had its own superpower; one made you feel fierce, the other bold and some self-confident. If fashion is an armour, then Ottolinger’s SS21 collection will have you ready for war.

The brand is known for challenging the traditional structure of couture through deconstruction, but even through the bold cuts the clothes become a sword rather than a shield to hide you.

Their choice in model casting is highly commendable, their inclusivity in body types proves that anyone can harness their inner superpowers through Ottolinger clothes.

In a fun, short video to accompany the SS21 collection lookbook, AR filters alter the faces and distort the models ever so slightly blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. The video was edited and made in a way that emulated a video game with each character being a model and their superpowers harnessed from the SS21 clothing.
