The failure of will – the dark side of human mind

Christina Androulidaki Gallery, Athens, presents Stelios Karamanolis’ new exhibition, The Failure of Will. The artist’s solo show breaks away from the representation of the reality, approaches and reflects on canvases the very innermost and dark thoughts of the human soul.

The exhibition escapes from the realm of reality and moves towards the realm of imagination and emotion in an attempt to examine the human drama, the aggressive tendencies, the alienation and the loneliness with obvious references to historical groups like Die Bruecke and Der Blaue Reiter and contemporaries such as Marlene Dumas and Peter Doig.

The history is mixed with fiction and  dystopia with a blend of humour and joyful anarchy, all of which are evident through aggressive brushstrokes, violent strokes, distorted faces and bodies and vivid colours, elements which were very much absent in the previous works of the artist.

Stelios Karamanolis is a graduate of Athens School of Fine Arts and has exhibited widely.

The overall exhibition goes beneath the surfaces and deals with matters of the human soul through metaphorical and enigmatic paintings giving enlightening insights of the complex and sometimes cruel folds of human mind.
