Back catalogue bliss — Pet Shop Boys release Catalogues: 1985-2012

“I CLOSE my eyes and see you better before” from the single We Are The Pet Shop Boys, which was released in 2003 and, now, almost, 14 years later these lyrics have never been more relevant. Feel the Pet Shop Boys even better now with their newly released collection of remastered albums − Catalogues: 1985-2012.

Catalogues: 1985-2012 is a series of reissues of all their studio albums released on Parlophone accompanied by Further Listening albums of master quality bonus tracks and demos created in the same period of time as each album, as well as the Pet Shop Boys own remixes of their tracks -many of them released for the first time.

The recurring musical theme of this year seems to be comebacks and revivals. And although, the pioneering synth-pop duo never really left the scene, PSB are certainly creating much hype with Nightlife, Release, and Fundamental − the three albums containing the best of the best of PSB, as well as including tracks being released for the first time and remixes by the boys themselves. Both Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe delve into, and explore, each song in the lavish booklet that features archive photographs looking through the PSB history which accompanies the collection.

Rollo, Craig Armstrong and David Morales are the producers of Nightlife − the first of the albums in the collection. This chilling synthesised album was originally released in 1999 and now features two Further Listening CDs which include bonus tracks and demos created at the time of the original album, but have only been made available now. The remastered album Released is the second of the trio.

Cover features PSB interpreting If Looks Could Kill by as well as an unreleased cover of Gilbert O’Sullivan’s Alone Again, Naturally  featuring Elton John. The 2002 album was a UK top ten hit, so it made sense for PSB to bring it back and include these unreleased, additional and cover copies. The year 2006 saw the release of Fundamental − the more intense of the three and includes 22 tracks of ringtones, single edits, orchestral mixes and demos along with A Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi about it.

Relive the past and submerge yourself with the hidden treasures and unknown pleasures of the Pet Shop Boys. Catalogues: 1985-2012 will be on sale from July 28. However, you can pre-order the first three of the collection here. These memories will trigger a new-found excitement for any devoted PBS fans.

Throughout the year, the Catalogues: 1985-2012 reissues will be released until all the Parlophone albums by PSB are for sale − including all Further Listening albums.
