Giorgio Armani palliated the couture high jinks he’s opted for in the past this season in Paris, delivering a little more subtle play on springtime custom-made garments for the world’s high net worth cognoscenti.
Casting his latest bevy of beauties as dainty nymphs frolicking in freshwater streams, stained in silken lilac, Armani once again set about experimenting with fabrics and the kind of textures they can conjure when placed in his hands.
Magnificently shiny crystals, beads and even accents of mother of pearl created cosmic carapaces that were of another world and from them came beautiful interpretations of matelassé silk and yards of transparent ruffles that hypnotised in their attention to detail.
The collection continued this way throughout and was just as charged as any other Armani Privé collection, just with perhaps even more attention to fine tuning this season dare I say. The grand gowns that closed the whole fairy-tale affair will no doubt also be charming a few of Hollywood’s fairest maidens as award season picks up the pace.
One of cinema’s most alluring greats, Charlotte Rampling, sat front row in fact, and if the previous Glass cover star’s presence is any bearing on the quality of the show, we’d say the spring 2016 is a collection that will sit quite profoundly in Mr Armani’s archives.
