THE first thing you notice about Lalique’s new men’s fragrance, L’Insoumis, is the bottle. An elegant and modern looking square of glass when faced on, belies the artistry of the black fern edging, inspired by Rene Lalique’s Tourbillons vase in 1926. It’s what’s inside however, that is truly remarkable. Combining what some many would see as unconventional ingredients, L’Insoumis presents a very modern man at the heart of its history-steeped bottle.

The ingredients of L’Insoumis
Lavender, moss, rum and black pepper help to create what can only be described as a fleeing hint that this is unlike other men’s colognes you’ve tried before. The sweetness mixes with the rum, resulting in a heady, warm heat that feels as though emanating from an English garden in the height of summer. This is an interpretation of a woody foulere created by French nose Fabrice Pellegrin.
Fitting, then, that the launch party should take place on an idyllic rooftop garden at the Ham Yard Hotel, on a particularly humid London summer evening. When released later this year, be advised – since you’ll want to get your hands on a bottle – L’Insoumis will be a surefire hit.
