STAGING a customarily glittering presentation in the imposing Palm Court of The Waldorf Hotel in central London for London Collections: Men was Savile Row showstoppers Chester Barrie. Boasting a special surprise performance by jazz singer Collette Cooper to enthral guests in-between the moments Barrie’s latest luxe suits were doing just that, SS17 was presented as a party-ready collection of suits fit for any social occasion stipulating that one must dress to impress, from wedding to Serpentine garden party to Royal Ascot.
Tailoring was executed by the masterful modern tailors in lightweight summer cloths including wool, silk and linen blends in sophisticated ecru, mid blues and warm greys. Polishing these elements off with the ultimate suited comfort that is a half lined jacket, immensely elegant in its discretion, formal dress at weddings is looking up if Chester Barrie’s latest collection is anything to go by.
Blazingly cool dinner suits in brighter hues than seen before feature ottoman facing lapels and come with the option of making even louder sartorial utterances in silk jacquard cocktail jackets and head to toe cream dinner suits with Gatsby-eque savoir faire.
A narrative only emboldened by the ice cold G.H. Mumm and cucumber sandwiches being served at the presentation. Bold double breasting is also a strong staple this season, given lightweight flair thanks to a lithe flannel construction, delivering old school debonair dressing for younger generations aspiring to snappy dressing.
