TAKING place in Vivian Beaumont Theatre at the Lincoln Centre, Michael Kors debuted his AW18 collection to a eclectic soundtrack, featuring a sort of greatest hits medley, ranging from My Favourite Things by Julie Andrews to Madonna, Britney Spears and Michael Jackson. Kors dedicated the collection to a more positive America where both genders can wear whatever clothing they wish.
The 75-look collection focused on deep colours with flashes of the bright – electric yellow pieces clashed with scarlet teases. The busy and varied style of the collection juxtaposed the modernity of sportswear against classic Hampton’s-ready evening wear – with a splash of punk influence.
Plaids, florals and leopard print: the opening look set the standard for what was to come with these three motifs used throughout the show, with classic khaki camouflage also making appearances. With a healthy balance of both daytime and nighttime pieces (some of which clearly lead the pack judging by their sequin-covered state), Michael Kors AW18 show payed homage to one of the great loves of his life – New York City.
Both male and female models featured in the show of varying shapes, sizes, ethnicities and ages, all sporting the aesthetic of dewy, glowing skin and minimal make-up in that oh-so-familiar Michael Kors way. He may not be the most revolutionary of designers, but if there is one thing we can always depend on for Michael Kors for, it is his blissful continuity. Once again, this season, he did not disappoint.
