PAUL SMITH has taken on friend and famed British actor, Matt Smith to be the face of their AW23 and SS24 campaigns for the upcoming two seasons.
The actor is best known for his roles in the popular series The Crown, The Doctor Who and his depiction of Daemon Targaryen in the HBO show, House of the Dragon. The brand has developed a strong friendship with the actor and the designer is thrilled to bring Matt on for AW23 and SS24 revealing his admiration for the actor’s ability to embody effortlessness.
I’m beyond excited to be working with Matt for the next two seasons – he’s the perfect fit for Paul Smith. He’s also one of those people who really embodies effortlessness, both in terms of his on-screen characters and his off-screen sense of style. And, of course, It doesn’t hurt that he looks excellent in a suit. – Paul Smith
The British star will be seen sporting the renowned A Suit To Travel In and the best of Paul Smith’s classic tailoring. Recently released knitwear and outerwear from the brand’s new collection are also featured alongside the brand’s famed Signature Stripe, illustrative of luxury and modern artisanal craft.
The new collection hones into themes of archival-inspired pieces, modernist architecture and interiors with heritage fabrics at the heart of it.
The AW23 campaign resurrects the archives and takes its inspiration from the minimalist yet iconic black-and-white campaigns of Paul Smith in the ’90s.
As a play on their shared surname and an expansion on its nostalgic flair, designer Paul Smith makes a cameo, standing beside Matt in one of the stills, in a recreation of a 1994 spring-summer campaign.
The brand’s inventive qualities and colourful tailoring stand out to the actor as he honours Pauls’s boundary-pushing abilities and his art, themes that excite Matt to work with the designer over the next two seasons.
