THE LATEST Dior Homme collection seemed to evolve before our eyes, turning for tailored to teenage dirtbag in a matter of minutes. Kept causal by styling with untied laces, Kris Van Assche gradually added element of casual, street wear reminiscing of that of the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. An initial range of formal suits began to deconstruct allowing elements of pop culture to overrule. Flashes of tribal tattoo motifs and repetitive print used to adorn the classic overcoats and dress shirts.
The collection took us through different colour stories, first introducing a rich teal, followed by a pillar-box red and more sophisticated camel. Wide-leg blue jeans styled with neckerchief scarfs and miniature sunglasses created a feeling of youth and rebellion reflecting that of the era. Printed Christian Dior t-shirts, similar to vests seen in the SS18 collection, supplied a more literal insight to the ‘90s inspiration.
Keeping garments cuts classic, Assche focused attention on use of materials and print to push the influence for the collection. Layers of striped t-shirt and polo shirts played allowed access to past, everyday fashion. The addition of shearling jackets in vibrant furs and a garish acid yellow allowed for a contemporary edge, fusing popular trends of today with a collection devoted to the past.
