Vivienne Westwood drops whimsical AW18 campaign

VIVIENNE Westwood is no newcomer to pushing the boundaries of fashion. Her latest AW18 campaign attests to that. This time, she has teamed up with her husband Andreas Kronthaler and photographer Juergen Teller to create and direct a campaign that is unlike any other.

Models – including the queen of British fashion herself – clad in the latest collection stand front facing, staring directly in the camera with a gaze that is both powerful and unsettling. The campaign is whimsical, subversive and even humorous: a model is draped in fairy lights while Westwood seems to have a unicorn horn and tail attached to her body. The set too is atypical: one model stands on a table where it seems to be raining dollar bills. It’s strange, but in a good way.

As Kronthaler remarks, “It’s always about pushing ourselves into new territories, experimenting and taking us out of our comfort zone- you’re never sure how it’s going to look.” Indeed, this campaign is not something you would expect in fashion, but Westwood is hardly one to conform to convention anyway.
