Dior takes us to Mexico to show Cruise 2024

DESIGNED by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the Dior Cruise 2024 collection transports us to Mexico, a country that serves as a “place of the soul” for Dior’s Creative Director. Chiuri taps into the ethereal spirit of surrealism ingrained in Mexican culture, narrating a timeless tale of femininity, resilience, and environmental harmony.

Central to the narrative is the iconic Frida Kahlo, whose enduring legacy echoes through the collection. Kahlo, who was recognised for her intense self-expression, often used the clothes she wore as a means of representing herself, making a statement, and affirming her identity. Chiuri draws inspiration from this ethos, translating Kahlo’s transformation into a collection of patterns that appear on a wide range of garments.

The intricate collars, cut from jersey and black velvet, together with the seductive jacquards, echo the artist’s narrative of resilience and protest. In addition to that, Chiuri has once again collaborated with local artisans, manifesting in unique embroideries and collaborative creations that adorn dresses and shirts, like stories woven into fabric.

This collection is an inviting blend of tradition and innovation, it’s a testament to the enduring power of fashion to articulate stories and to the transformative essence of femininity.
