Glass reviews Ren’s Bio Retinoid™ Youth Concentrate Oil

THIS unassuming product Ren’s Bio Retinoid™ Youth Concentrate Oil packs a highly effective and non-irritating punch. Anyone who has dallied with retinol will have their war stories – the flaking irritated skin; (unsuccessful) attempts to get through the two-week zone of itchy enflamed skin; that sad collection of started yet unfinished products gathering dust on the dressing table. There has to be a better way.

Happily leading skincare brand Ren have devised Bio Retinoid™ – an ingredient made of the plant-based alternative Bidens Pilosa as a non-irritating and gentle alternative to retinol – which is the main active in this product.

Bio Retinoid™ Youth Concentrate Oil is also composed of 99 per cent natural ingredients – such as organic rosehip oil and is rich in omega 3 and 6 oils and ceramides – which helps to strengthen and soothe the skin barrier rather than attacking it as some retinols seem to do

The oil is very lightweight, non greasy and very easily absorbed. It also gives suppleness and firmness to the skin.

And let’s not forget the eco-credientials – the oil is packaged in a recyclable glass bottle with a 50 per cent Post Industrial Recycled (PIR) plastic dropper. (However at the moment the dropper is unrecyclable, but the brand is working on a solution to this).

I have been using this oil after cleansing my face and neck at night. The instructions suggest using five drops but I have found that too many – three gives me good coverage for the face, neck and decolletage.

Using it five times a week, a 30 ml bottle has lasted me for three months.

I have found this oil very pleasant to use and highly effective at soothing the skin while reducing sun damage, dry patches and fine lines.
