Nails are MAC for good

With colours that pop, shimmer, glisten or project moodily from the fingertips and toes, MAC’s new permanent collection of nail lacquers cater for all tones and tastes. Old favourites which have previously only been launched as limited editions are joined by bestsellers and rich new hues, resulting in a covetable collection of 31 colours across three finishes: cream, pearl and frost.

Highlights from the range include ballet dancer nudes, dusky blushes and a fluffy cloud grey (Faint of Heart, Delicate, Skin, Quiet Time, Snob and Saint Germain); vibrant corals and pinks (Fiestaware, Impassioned, Morange, Steamy, Girl About Town, Shirelle and Flaming Rose); deep blue, green, mauve and purple (Deep Sea, Spirit of Truth and Vintage Vamp), and a magpie mix of glitters, gunmetal and golds (Soirée, Discothéque and Nightfall); whatever the day’s mood board calls for, MAC seemingly have it covered.

A personal stand out favourite has been found in the bright and chirpy, universal suits all Morange, a poppy red meets blood orange hue that will serve you well through this season to the next. At the other end of the spectrum, the metallic Midnight Tryst, is made for just that – a seductive slate grey that calls out for stormy weather and silky layers.

The slim line applicator brushes shouldn’t work, but they do, helping even these shaky hands to achieve a mani-perfect finish. Three was the magic number of coats for achieving the desired opaque finish, more than the average polish; that said, MAC makes up for it with a quick-drying, glossy and chip-free staying power, lasting through the nightly washing up and bumpy morning commutes – with the added protection of a transparent base and top coat – until it was time for a change a week later.

£10 a pop seems a fair price for these little 10ml beauties, sitting at the end of the scale where lacquer lovers can afford to gradually work through the collection. Something you can do in the literal sense, without fear of losing out on the latest must have shade, now that MAC’s reserved a permanent place on the shelf.
