AW21: Amiri

IT’S NO surprise Mike Amiri has designed for some of the most pre-eminent names in rock when considering the ‘70s tropes that permeated through the designers AW21 collection. Presented on the 4th Street bridge, the collection was an ode to Amiri’s milieu in Downtown Los Angeles, perfectly encapsulating the glamour and grit of the city.

Illuminated by a golden glow from sundown, each model paraded across the bridge in twists and turns. Straying from the brands traditionally tight jeans and raw denim finish, for this collection Amiri embraced a looser and sharper silhouette.

This collection was tinted with an amber-hued flush, from a shearling-collared leather coat, to a leopard print double-breasted jacket, each piece radiated a warmth of nostalgia. Wide collared shirts hovered over relaxed wool suits, while knits came in cashmere and argyle, paired with patent leather trousers.

This collection fuses the feel of a former time with the essence of modern streetwear, crafting slightly oversized pinstriped and check suits, embellished with pointed peak lapels and worn with white trainers.

The centrepiece of the collection was a tawny-coloured large faux fur that swayed around the wearer as he walked – a true spectacle that underpinned the transformative abilities of fashion.
