LFW AW20: MM6 Maison Margiela

SET IN an industrial location just two minutes from 180 Strand, the MM6 Maison Margiela show was half-presentation half-catwalk that took place over four different rooms, creating a sort of labyrinth for attendees. The cyclical nature of the show referenced the brand’s own logo and design aesthetic.

MM6 is Maison Margiela’s contemporary label which often plays with both classical and punk elements at once. For AW20, MM6 announced a collaboration with American label, The North Face. The collaboration with The North Face marks MM6’s first partnership since 2011 and by introducing the functionality of the outerwear brand, the collection highlighted themes of movement and precision. Models could be spotted sporting both the logos as the brands intermingled, pieces such as an oversized deep purple fleeces and bright blue puffed vests were paired with circular bags. Other pieces juxtaposed the outdoors element of the collection with intricate zebra patterns, slinky layered dresses, tailored trousers and statement sunglasses.

As models walked in circles through the rooms, attendees could envision the clothing in multiple environments, from a dark and rave like atmosphere to a room that was set up to look like the  backstage of the show with hair and makeup staff attending to the models as we watched, MM6 has maintained their innovative approach to both presentation and design.
