J. JS Lee started the LFW proceedings once again this season, taking on the responsibility of waking us up to what new styles we’ll be seeing more of over the next few days. Aside from this and also the early morning wake up call, in fashion land, Jackie also woke us up to the growth of her London label. Featuring look after look of new more considered details, it took a highly vigilant onlooker to distinguish the new steps the designer is taking, marking SS15 as the season in which her newest collection wasn’t going to be forgotten about quickly. The first thing to meet the eye was the exquisite silk creations featuring deep blue floral prints, floating down the catwalk in compelling competition with the rigid monochrome blocking.
The “trapped” floral print came courtesy of Lee’s flower-pressed friend, Korean Artist Meekyoung Shin’s “Translation” soap sculpture series, and for the most part, is the first time Lee has dared to design with such a graphic print. This added new life to SS15, enlivened even more with a clash of faintly 50s silhouettes, look to the neat nipped waists, set against some grunge inspired tailoring, tied together through clean minimalism. Finally, garnering the rest of the excitement that Lee stocked heavily this season, accessories including shoes and bags taking their form from frames and other grid-like structures showed that Lee still has more up her chic sleeve to give to London fashion.
