NYFW AW19: Linder

AGAINST a grainy stone backdrop, Linder debuted their AW19 collection at NYFW. Recreating 1970s style with a contemporary edge, the collection plays with different trends popularised in the one of the most influential eras of fashion, music, and culture, from its geometric patterns and bootleg trousers, to the Western inspired shapes and silhouettes.

The influence of ’70s style is intertwined throughout the collection, but is remade for a modern audience. In particular, Liner plays with ’70s trends by changing up the popularised straight-leg jeans, reworking it with blue satin, and combining together several different hippie-ish prints and patterns. This mishmash of different silhouettes, fabrics, and patterns is everywhere in the collection, with Linder exploring the different varieties of ’70s style while tying them together through the collection.

While using a relatively neutral colour palette, the combination of different prints livens the collection, bringing new vibrancy to vintage style. Combining the best of satin, denim, faux fur, and mesh fabrics, the collection is unconventionally cool, while maintaining a wearability that will appeal to most. Striking the balance between high fashion and street style, Liner succeeds in creating a collection which is both experimental and trend-focused.

The collection was comprised of a variety of eclectic and varied looks, despite their overall 70s’ inspired designs. Out of all the looks, one of the most singular and unique had to be the colour-block satin straight-leg trousers with mesh long-sleeved top. Colourful, chic, and quintessentially seventies, the look succeeded in Linder’s exploration of one of the memorable eras of fashion.

Bringing contemporary style to vintage fashion, Linder proves that even in 2019 70s’ style is still on top.
