PFWM AW24: KidSuper

SURROUNDED by stars from the world of fashion and hip-hop, KidSuper’s autumn-winter 2024 show was, of course, a big affair.

Titled String Theory, the latest seasonal offering is based upon Einstein’s theory of relativity and Quantum theory. The String Theory states that everything is intertwined and multi-dimensional. Atoms, electrons and quarks are folded together and, despite at first appearing as 1 dimension, may actually have more than 9 dimensions.

Colm Dillane – founder of KidSuper – wanted to channel this idea that everything is linked at a much deeper molecularity. Despite the String Theory never being proven, the idea encourages the attendees to introspectively interrogate how the universe is fundamentally connected.

Dillane wanted to encourage attendees to look at his collection with a similar lens – one where we explore and make connections between each design choice.

The show was eagerly anticipated with the front row being full of notorious figures such as Daniel Kaluuya, Gunna, Koba, Sita Abellán, Giggs, Pierre Bourne, La Fève, M huncho and Trippie Redd. Similarly, Dillane wanted to amaze with casting choices for AW24.

Having previously collaborated with Barnsley Football Club for kits in 2023, it’s evident that Dillane is a big fan of the sport. Now, the creative director has teamed up with Ronaldinho and had the retired player walk in the latest presentation.

As a result, the collection features several references to the sporting world. In particular, these emerge through KidSuper’s collaboration with Canada Goose. Four pieces were unveiled during the presentation, which were all made to celebrate Canada Goose’s partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA). Dillane’s artworks are placed at the forefront of the collaboration.

The artist and designer penned two new visuals for the capsule to further personalise and subvert the pieces. Composed of the Reversible Fleece Jacket, Reversible Puffer Vest, Crofton Puffer Jacket, Jacquard Toque and key footwear items, the collaborative collection seamlessly combines the two brand’s design codes.

Similarly, the show marks a new chapter for KidSuper as Dillane enters into a collaboration with the Brooklyn Nets’ private label merchandise line – bǝrō.

Throughout the NBA season, the Nets will collaborate with a selection of designers to promote and provide a platform for Brooklyn-based artists and icons. KidSuper’s collection with the Nets will debut later this year and will be available online and at a standalone retail store within Barclays Center.

The collection showcases Dillane’s playful, light-hearted design approach, whilst also paying homage to his cultural upbringing. Brimming with bold graphics, patterned scarves and branded duffle bags, the pieces demonstrate the designer’s versatility.

Overall, having previously overseen Louis Vuitton’s AW23 collection, Dillane has drawn upon his wealth of experience and knowledge to provide a fun, energetic ensemble.
