Saint Laurents opens new centre of excellence for accessories and leather-goods

oday, the iconic Maison has just announced the opening of L’Atelier Maroquinerie – a new 28,700 square-metre Centre of Excellence for the development and production of Saint Laurent’s accessories and leather goods.

Specially constructed to house the making of prototypes and bespoke items, the new atelier is located in Scandicci, Florence and will employ over 500 skilled technicians. The production activity on-site will be entirely dedicated to creating these exclusive, one-off items.

The Centre of Excellence is opening in the former Palazzo delle Finanze – previously owned by CDP Real Asset SGR.

Speaking on the new facility, Saint Laurent’s CEO Francesca Bellettini said: “Bringing together the development of both accessories and leather goods, the atelier will be an environment for sharing expertise, generating ideas and encouraging experimentation…L’Atelier Maroquinerie will help us realise our ambition to develop the most desirable leather goods and accessories in the world.”

Despite being dedicated to accessories and leather goods, the centre will also help with repairs and after-sales support – especially for the Maison’s European clientele. In order to provide the highest level of support and care, the atelier is fitted with a specialist school to train new employees.

“We are very glad to have relocated and expanded the atelier in Scandicci, as we have long since recognised the artisanal and managerial skills of the people here – and the heritage of the region for outstanding craftsmanship. L’Atelier Maroquinerie will combine generations of knowledge with new levels of innovation,” explained the CEO.
