A MESMERISING fusion of fashion and ballet is on the horizon as the British luxury brand Burberry collaborates with The Royal Ballet for an unprecedented, one-act production. Choreographed by Wayne McGregor and designed by Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer, Daniel Lee, this groundbreaking work premieres on June 9 at London’s Royal Opera House.
Featuring the captivating music of Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir, the ballet promises to be a feast for the senses. The late Cuban-American artist Carmen Herrera’s set design adds a minimalist yet powerful touch, while Lucy Carter’s lighting design will enhance the otherworldly experience.
Wayne McGregor brings together a dream team for this unique project. He praises Daniel Lee for his “innovation, motion, and piercing beauty,” and expresses excitement in working alongside Burberry to create something truly special that honors Herrera’s legacy.
For Lee, designing dance costumes is a dream come true, expressing his passion for the art form and his gratitude for the opportunity to work with such a remarkable team. This historic collaboration marks the first time Lee designs for McGregor and Burberry’s first foray into the world of The Royal Ballet.
The synergy between Burberry and The Royal Ballet exemplifies the spirit of modern Britishness, pushing the boundaries of creativity and contemporary culture. As we eagerly anticipate McGregor’s 20th work for The Royal Ballet, it’s clear that this collaboration will undoubtedly set the stage for a breathtaking performance.
