LFW SS23: Chopova Lowena

LONDON Fashion Week welcomes Chopova Lowena‘s first-ever runway show. Founded by two up-and-coming Bulgarian designers, Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, the brand entered the world of fashion by a loud storm and marked what may be seen as the new beginning of a new era for grungy and edgy designs.

The debut collection was titled Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose. Taken from a Gertrude Stein poem, the inspiration of the collection take us back to designers’ heritage as they reimagine Bulgaria’s loveliest festival with a “lacrosse-inspired twist”. As stated in the collection’s press release, Chopova Lowena’s philosophy revolves around “the interplay of heritage and modernity, beauty and sport”.

Having already made a widespread launch of unhinged, carabiner-belted kilts, the brand continues to evolve their beloved design. Among the classics, the collection debuted dresses boned at the waist with petaled string, handmade macramé necklaces and bags that were knotted around healing crystals, added for protection. Tough girl, chain-braided jeans, doodle-printed swimsuits or fluffy skirts all highlighted the punkish playfulness of the designs.

Dedicated to the mother and grandmother of one of the collaborators, Emma Chopova, the collection was undoubtedly a triumphant beginning for the up-and-coming label.
