LOCATED in the BFC Show Space at the Old Truman Brewery, the hub for activity during London Fashion Week Men’s, Glass photographer Matt Leeves takes to the backstage for London-based brand Astrid Andersen’s AW20 show. A remarkable ten years since the launch of her label, Astrid Andersen breezed into the new decade by paying homage to the heritage of both herself and her brand at LFWM on Sunday.
Although absent last season, Andersen returned to her adopted fashion homeland in London to celebrate her native Danish roots, which lie at the very heart of her AW20 vision.
Her mother’s first piece of furniture, a ’70s rose printed sofa, is central to the narrative of Andersen’s collection, marking the departure from her childhood home to embark on the journey towards her blossoming career.

Signature tracksuits support Andersen’s consistent approach to sport and street inspired aesthetic within the category of luxury, while the psychedelic reworking of ’70s floral upholstery plays a prominent part of the collection.
Striking prints combine with vibrant hues to adhere to the recurrent theme of the ’70s, such as jacquard zebra cuts and camouflage, in addition to a secondary colour palette of lilacs, greens and oranges. Meanwhile, the soundtrack consisted of disco, funk and hip hop fusions.

While some of Andersen’s previous collections may have been notably in favour of flamboyance and frivolity, her pioneering attitude towards AW20 feels much more liberal and free, hence the many references towards the ’70s, marking a pivot of change and a break of convention.
