Italian designer Miuccia Prada, produced Act 2 this week for Milan Fashion Week AW14; the second part of what she calls a story following Act 1 the Menswear show last month. It was a theatrical performance, that included orchestra pits and walls covered in felt, and throughout the show Barbara Sukowa sang for the audience.
The pieces molded the delicate with the rugged – including transparent slips, satin dresses, suit jackets and oversized coats with large fur covered lapels. The colours included solid red, black, yellow, purple and intense chequered combinations of the vibrant palette. There was a lot of emphasis on the shearling coat. Prada cited “German influences and the avant garde”– such as the work of German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder and the early works of Sukowa – as influences for the show.
