Miu Miu announce its first Literary Club event, Writing Life

MIU MIU has unveiled their first Literary Club, titled Writing Life, a two-day event delving into the works of Sibilla Aleramo and Alba De Céspede while encouraging conversations and hosting live performances and entertainment.

The event is a means to display the brand’s dedication to contemporary thinking, taking inspiration from literary salons, artist collectives and the consideration of women’s lives throughout history to the present day through the written word.

The novels promoted during the Literary Club will be Aleramo’s A Woman, initially published in 1906, and De Céspedes’s Forbidden Notebook, published in 1952.

The two books, although half a century apart, exhibit the power of writing and its long-established abilities to aid women’s expression of desires, thoughts and ideologies, helping them gain a sense of independence as they continue to inspire future generations to follow suit.

The event encourages the understanding of history and education paramount to Miu Miu’s distinct identity as well as the lives of today’s women. Taking place will be a series of panel discussions and performances — made possible by writer and researcher Olga Campofreda — delving into women and their societal positionality, exploring themes of motherhood, family and career.

In conversations about creative and daily lives, contemporary authors will be in talks with the literary greats of the past to elevate the future. The panellists that will be present are Pulitzer Prize winner, Jhumpa Lahiri, Italian writer and Strega prize finalist Claudia Durastanti, critically acclaimed writer Sheila Heti, Italian writer and 2011 Campiello Opera Prima winner Viola Di Grado, Booker prize long-listed author Selby Wynn Schwartz and Xiaolu Guo, the Chinese-born British novelist, memoirist and film-maker. Moderators will include writer and curator Lou Stoppard and author, presenter and journalist Zing Tsjeng.

Throughout the afternoon guests can enjoy poetry and reading sessions alongside musical performances.

A cultural affair, the Miu Miu Literary Club is an exploration of the arts. For those interested in picking up a copy of A Woman or Forbidden Notebook, the novels will be available at the event wrapped up in elegant Miu Miu packaging.
