Mulberry celebrates 20 years of the Bayswater with a fresh twist

TWENTY years ago, Mulberry created an icon: the Bayswater bag. Born in the era of Blackberry, low-slung denim, and the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Where is the Love?’, it has grown into a timeless symbol of luxury.

The Bayswater, named after the chic West London neighbourhood, quickly found favour with style icons of the noughties like Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung, and Rihanna. Even today, it remains a favourite, with a new generation of fashion enthusiasts exploring Y2K style, thanks to The Mulberry Exchange, a platform for pre-loved pieces.

Recognisable by its simple design and signature Postman’s Lock, the Bayswater has evolved over the years, adding Zipped and Mini versions to the family.

As the world has become more eco-conscious, so has the Bayswater. Since 2022, it’s been crafted exclusively from environmentally accredited and carbon-neutral leather, a standard for all Mulberry bags.

In honour of the Bayswater’s 20th year, three new variations have been introduced, these are: the East/West Bayswater, the North/South Bayswater Tote, and the Zipped Bayswater Tote. In addition to that, the Mini Bayswater gets a summer makeover in Raffia and the collection welcomes a vibrant palette of Geranium Pink, Acid Green, and Pigment Blue.

Launching on May 10th, the anniversary campaign, shot by Ronan McKenzie and styled by Eliza Conlon, showcases the Mulberry spirit embodied by Lily McMenamy, Alva Claire, and Laura Morgan. It promises to break the fourth wall, bringing us closer to the magic behind the camera.

Mulberry CEO, Thierry Andretta, reflects, “The Bayswater embodies our Made to Last ethos, which is one of the reasons why after 20 years it remains an emblem of enduring style”.
