Paris Fashion Week AW13: Stella McCartney

It’s going to be a big season next autumn winter according to Stella McCartney’s collection. And when we say big, we mean big coats, big waist drops and even bigger shapes such as plunging lapels and wide leg trousers.

The show opened with a multitude of pinstripes, redirecting the lines and cutting them in exaggerated shapes transforming then into wrap-front jackets and strapless dresses that sprouted folds of fabric from the side – with the tailoring aspect being a tribute to her Savile Row background and a harmonious marriage of the masculine and the feminine.

There was more of a focus on cocooning the body in comfort rather than restricting it, which is precisely what we desire during the colder months, all the while retaining a touch of femininity – we saw lace inserts added to the loose sweater dresses and silk jumpsuits in regal shades of purple – and if anyone thought comfort meant sacrificing elegance needs but one look at this stellar collection to change their minds.
