PFWM SS20: Lanvin

HAVING only recently assumed the role of creative director of Lanvin in January 2019, Bruno Sialelli proves he is a force to be reckoned with at Paris SS20. The 31-year-old designer demonstrates his fierce determination as the next captain to oversee one of the oldest running French high fashion houses with his show, Plein Soleil. With this dynamic menswear collection, the new leadership of Lanvin confidently steers the brands identity in an innovative direction.

Sialelli influence is daring and unafraid, which allows him to take the necessary gambles to distinguish Lanvin’s designs at the close of Paris SS20. With a funky maritime presentation, the risk of standing out is well worth the reward. First and foremost, the whimsical location works in perfect symmetry with the looks and stylistically elevates them. Upon the multi-storied swimming complex, with azure water reflecting below, audience members can fully appreciate the cool and clean design of each look.

A common feature of the Plein Soleil collection is attention the house has given to creating clean lines, symmetry and overall smoothness to each design. The bold stylistic choices are very much in tune with the first womenswear collection Sialelli released with Lanvin earlier this year.

Call it kitschy or playful, the presence of marine creatures on models cements Sialleli’s unique reign over house of Lanvin.

Another unmissable element scattered throughout the various of outfits donned by the models are the stylish bags, each of which is worn in symbiosis with the look.

Not to be forgotten is that stunning cornflower blue gracing several of the pieces for which the house is most famous for.

Though the house has faced several tumultuous years with past creative designers, there is a renewed hope in Sialleli. Why? Because he is able to create a SS20 collection with roots in the brands own history.

Just as Jeanne Lanvin began her career as a designer of children’s clothing after her daughter Marguerite was born, Sialelli reintroduces that very same delightful youthfulness in which the house was born. Perhaps Lanvin’s future success will be rooted in how well the house can reconnect with its own history. If so, Lanvin at Paris SS20 is proof that there is no better creative mind to guide that journey than Bruno Sialelli.
