Welcome to the spring issue of Glass Man – entitled renew. Traditionally spring is associated with rebirth and starting again, so I thought this would be an interesting theme to explore in this issue.
Also as the Covid-19 pandemic which made the world shudder to a halt over two years ago now appears to be abating, our thoughts and plans are turning to renewing our dreams, ambitions and plans. Of life beginning over.
“Take a course in good water and air; and in the eternal youth of nature you may renew your own. Go quietly, alone; no harm will befall you,” said John Muir the visionary Scottish-American environmentalist.
While we were going to press on this issue, the unconscionable began – a terrible war in Ukraine, destroying a country with many of its citzens forced to flee their homes.
As Chilean American writer Isabel Allende says, “We don’t even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.”

We asked our cover star the K-pop musician Mark Tuan what renewal means to him. “Letting things go and working on becoming a better version of myself,” he told us.

While American actor Simon Rex tells us that “The last two years has forced a lot of people to re-evaluate,” he reflects. “The last couple of years has been really seeing who my real friends are, you know? That’s been my renew thing, eliminating the people that are toxic around you.”
I hope this season allow you time to reflect and start your dreams and visions anew.
