LFW AW23: Susan Fang

SUSAN Fang’s autumn/winter 2023 collection is a statement of hope, love, and sustainability. The designer’s philosophy is to put out as much love into the world as possible, and this is reflected in her first-ever kidswear collection. The inspiration for the collection comes from the book, Ami, Child of the Stars, which promotes the message of unity and peace.

This showcase features loungewear that is both comfortable and stylish, straddling the border between pyjamas and streetwear. The strong femininity of these pieces is emphasised by their intricate necklines, draping shoulders, and laced edging. Fang’s special touch is the hand-made lace she created, which features cherubs and lucky clover flowers.

Sustainability is a big part of the collection, and it is seen in the up-cycled fabric woven laces and the 3D-printed accessories. Fang has taken remaining fabric scraps from previous seasons, turned them into yarn, and woven them into various silhouettes seen throughout the collection. Each piece produced is a “one of one.”

Additionally, with especially created pieces for the AW23 show, featuring sets of water mist wings, crinoline, and a full dress with a rose-scent aroma, the designer hopes to inspire people with the free form of clothing in our utopian future.

Susan Fang’s AW23 collection is a labour of love and a statement of hope. By blurring the lines between bedwear and everyday clothing, Fang has created a collection that is both comfortable and stylish.
