Loewe focus on sustainability by collaborating with Fundación Global Nature for the Eye/Loewe/Nature SS21 Collection

“NATURE is integral to my Loewe vision” explains Creative Director Jonathan Anderson. Citing the ‘great outdoors’ as inspiration, Eye/Loewe/Nature’s fifth season focuses on its environmental responsibility. When wanting to use nature as the focal point of a collection then it must be designed and created by respecting it.

With this in mind, the technique of reusing and repurposing what is already there and giving it a new life not only produces less waste but is also a quintessential characteristic of the Spanish brand.

Solely using recycled fabrics and yarns, vintage and workwear aesthetics are the main style this season. From hooded jackets that have an integrated backpack sewn in, to upcycled Mexican carpets turned into coats and vintage quilts are patch-worked to create loose-fitting parkas – even unused military uniforms have become Bermuda shorts. This ethos of upcycling even translates into accessories along with a new line of recycled nylon bags that are both lightweight and packable.

Every product that is sold Loewe will donate €15 to A Casa For Birds by Fundaciòn Global Nature – a private non-profit foundation dedicated to protecting nature through the conservation of habitats and species. Spain has the largest refuge in Western Europe of unique European steppe birds, and the Agrarian intensification and increase use of pesticides have shrunk the population over the past decades at an alarming rate.

However, through A Casa For Birds, a number of initiatives will begin to help recover the birds – for example, creating ponds to offer drinking spots during the predominantly dry months, planting shrubs and trees and supporting agrarian practices like crop rotation, to name a few.
