MFWM AW22: A-COLD-WALL*

WHEN you try and squeeze something larger than life into a form of confinement, there will come a point where it bursts. So, after an array of lockdowns, quarantines and changes in the way we live our life, Samuel Ross approached the autumn-winter 2022 collection from a perspective of reaching freedom once again.

Driven by an emotional pursuit to go against the grain of forecasting trends but rather capturing the mannerisms that make this moment, A-Cold Wall* continues its exploration of materials and architectural silhouettes this season. Using the idea of being a purist at the core of AW22, aesthetics are influenced by the bold attitude of those that live their day-to-day in “wearable expressive art”.

Looks appear as if they are from a dystopian land as futuristic veil-like head coverings appear on many while a muted palette of beige, greys and deep ocean blues paint a defiant attitude with splashes of copper amber, blue red and forest green interwoven to provide depth.

Though on a mission to explore the forgotten territories of unrestricted design, Ross reimagines fan favourites for the collection by providing the much-loved sweaters with a new lease of life as patchworks are embroidered onto the pieces and denim jackets return in a washed acid treatment.

With assured confidence, A-Cold Wall* returns equipped with a fearless attitude indicating that true art will triumph when restrictions are lifted. And with a new dawn upon us, Samuel Ross is once again leading the way into a boundary-less world.
