Milan Fashion Week SS14: Emilio Pucci

Peter Dundas once told American Vogue that he loves high-octane glamour. His Spring 2014 Ready to Wear collection for Emilio Pucci evidences that drive literally and figuratively. Classic Pucci patterns mix with neoprene dresses and motocross-inspired jodhpurs. The S2014 Pucci girl could throw herself gleefully from a plane – in mod safety orange parachute material, no less, or she could tempt fate with a deep sea dive (in a sleek deep periwinkle haltered gown, of course).

Much has been said about Dundas adding edge to the venerable Florentine fashion house and how many of-the-moment musicians he dresses, perhaps to the line’s detriment. On this runway, though, he grounds the legendary Pucci aesthetic with Maasai-style beading. He revs up the carefree retro vibe with accessories worthy of a world champion boxer. Pucci may bring to mind Capri, but the woman wearing it now will only be arriving after she gets her own adrenaline rush on the racetrack or in the ring.
