With a heavyweight triumph accountable for serious empowerment of street-tough femininity, Marc by Marc Jacobs, which behind the scenes, saw Luella Bartley unite with Katie Hillier to form the new MJ design duo, championed a certain sass that is sure to set the blogosphere alight.
While an air of masculinity emanated from the leisurely pieces, a heightened androgyny soon touted a serious femininity, as large belts cut disciplined silhouettes, only exaggerated when paired with broad-shouldered tailored jackets.
Outerwear was seen in variety of brooding monochromatic hues, with accents of orderly stripes and plaid tartan prints, each glistening with the Jacobs stamp. MBMJ, printed firmly on cyper-sporty knee socks in an effort to take the spicy, energetic vibe of the season in an unparalleled direction, set up a wonderful rapport with digitalised Tumblr-esque prints, mounted on jersey shifts.
These retro hipster accoutrements, alongside a faintly disaffected colour scheme, established an Anime district-styling, fashioning a club-kid comportment that will most likely prove a wise choice for Bartley and Hillier.
Such flagrant buffalo stances were then juxtaposed by the deadpan ragamuffin classicism of bountiful bows and voluminous pleated skirts. In reflection, the thought-provoking retrieval of girl power, a response to tensions introduced by the new creative duo, will only enhance Marc Jacob’s iconic status.
