PFWM SS22: Homme Plissé Issey Miyake

THERE is an understanding that there is usually more than what initially meets the eye. And for Issey Miyake’s Homme Plissé SS22 collection, the brand investigated the human body and how the different elements create movement. Bringing this new perspective into design, the brand ethos of creating clothes that are made to be worn every day has led to a collection that engages in harmony with the wearer.

Presented digitally, the collection video helped express not only the diversity of the clothes but more notably, the universality of each piece – the clothes don’t wear you, you wear the clothes. Modelled by an extensive range of people, stretching from professionals in the business and education sector to the music and arts sphere, the idea that clothing is only completed when worn was put forward as the light rotated.

SS22 was brought together by a handful of mini-series. The Body Arch series is created using 100% recycled polyester yarn mixing together the classic pleated straight lines with curved ones to shine a light on the three-dimensional construction of the clothes – this comes in a spectrum of nude tones to mirror skin colours.

Whilst the Oblique series is made from the same fabric as previously mentioned but is utilised by creating diagonal lines to bring a more tailored touch to the loose garments.

Another notable characteristic is the body movement print series that is made with the intention of bringing forward the natural curves we all have, and as one moves in the fabric, the strokes come to life. On the other hand, extreme minimal design is introduced in the new inlaid knit created using seamless knit technology to contrast the tsunami of lines.

One of the most intriguing things when it comes to Issey Miyake’s clothes is that the wearer cannot be pinpointed. True luxury is not being stereotyped and this collection is nothing but an example of that.
