PFWM SS20: Louis Vuitton

COLOURED by the binaries found in nature, Louis Vuitton presents its SS20 PFWM collection.

Commencing the collection on Place Dauphine in Paris, a stones throw from the Louis Vuitton studios, the french fashion house makes it clear that it is returning to its roots for its latest menswear collection – even down to the Vuitton’s signature floral imagery. Not afraid of breaking gender conventions in fashion, flowers are interwoven into several pieces, from trousers to trench coats, nature presents itself as the main source of inspiration for the collection. Vuitton also showcases a more gender fluid collection through its use of a-line skirts and loose-fitting silhouettes – coming together in the fashion house’s first collection that can be worn by any gender.

Free expression and metamorphosis become key themes in the collection, presented through the eclectic colour palette, silhouettes, and prints. Tailoring is explored with transparent fabrics and abstract forms are presented through many of the looks, totally abandoning traditional silhouettes weird and wonderful attachments and accessories-wear.

It becomes clear that the fashion house wants to create a feeling of escapism from the contemporary landscape with the collection, providing a strong antithesis to the many collections this PFWM that embrace futurism and the digital age. A fresh approach to menswear, Vuitton reimagines a setting of natural life, rather than an advanced modern world.
