Glass tries L’Orbe’s caviar-infused vodka at Devonshire Club

THE pairing of vodka and caviar has been an honoured tradition in the world of gastronomy for years after its original practice in Russia. The delicate salty notes washed down with the sharp clean taste of vodka is something remarkable with the flavours fusing in perfect unison. Having understood the importance of this pairing, L’Orbe have created the world’s first naturally infused vodka caviar which made its debut in London’s Devonshire Club alongside a caviar-tasting session.

L’Orbe served with seafood and caviar

To begin the tasting, we try L’Orbe neat in its natural form to get an understanding of its flavour. The crisp taste of vodka is first to hit the palate which is quickly followed through by the savoury buttery notes of the caviar. Each sip becomes more familiar and its subtly salty flavour will have you craving caviar to eat alongside it. The obvious accompaniment is caviar however any seafood or savoury dish works well with the flavours of L’Orbe.

The minimalist L’Orbe bottle.

The L’Orbe bottle is minimalist in appearance and sees black caged caviar from Gironde in the centre of the bottle where the flavours are infused into Swedish vodka. The caviar is sourced from ecologically aware Sturgeon farms in southwest France which makes it a premium product alongside its partnered vodka. L’Orbe’s fusion of fine dining and mixology is revolutionary as the vodka has a uniquely flavoursome finish similar to that after meal. L’Orbe’s flavour is the perfect base when mixed, so Devonshire Club have created two bespoke cocktails which boast its complex flavours.

The first cocktail is Elements of the Sea which like its name suggests mimics the natural coastal flavours of salty waters. It uses the Scottish sugar kelp infused gin, Isle of Harris alongside L’Orbe and Spanish bitters to create a refreshingly umami cocktail which is perfect for those who enjoy the salty dryness of a dirty martini.

The second cocktail is the Blood Martini which uses L’Orbe with blood orange liquor, apricot jam and Peychauds bitters. Offering a much sweeter alternative to the Elements of the Sea, the Blood Martini is sweet, tangy and delicious with the apricot jam complimenting the caviar flavours of L’Orbe.

Situated in the heart of London’s busy city, Devonshire Club offers members and guests of the club to enjoy L’Orbe along with the new L’Orbe cocktails which will be on offer to try alongside many other premium drinks. Devonshire Club is open to the public at weekends and the cocktails are available on the Devonshire Club cocktail menu.
